Baptist Emergency Hospital will be breaking ground on a new two-story hospital in the South San Antonio area.
SAN ANTONIO – December 9, 2015 –San Antonio-based hospital system Baptist Emergency Hospital announced today that it will be breaking ground on a new two-story hospital serving residents in the South San Antonio area- an area that has been underserved for more than 30 years.
A ceremonial groundbreaking and turning of the shovels is set to take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16 at the corner of IH 35 South and Zarzamora- the future home of Baptist Emergency Hospital Zarzamora.
The 38,500 square-foot micro-hospital will house a state-of-the-art emergency department, inpatient beds, advanced imaging center and ambulatory service center.
Hospital officials say the new facility, to open in the winter of 2016, will be staffed by board-certified physicians who are dedicated to providing the same compassionate care Baptist Emergency Hospital is known for.
The announcement of the new facility comes just weeks after Baptist Emergency Hospital celebrated another milestone at its locations at Overlook and Thousand Oaks, when they were awarded the 2015 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for outstanding performance in patient experience, for the third year in a row.
The Guardian of Excellence Award, a nationally recognized symbol of achievement in health care, is presented annually to top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above for performance in patient experience.
According to Adolfo Carrasco, regional CEO for Baptist Emergency Hospital, the award is a testament to the quality of care his clinical team provides to San Antonio residents every day.
“The impact this new facility will have on the community is truly immeasurable,” said Carrasco. “We are proud to be offering specialized emergency medical care to the community of Zarzamora very soon.”
As part of the expansion, Baptist Emergency Hospital will continue its joint venture partnership with Emerus, a nationally recognized leader in the delivery of efficient medical care, to build and manage the site.
“We are pleased to continue working with the Baptist Health System to improve access to medical care,” said Toby Hamilton, CEO of Emerus. “Not only are they a trusted name in the San Antonio region, together we can meet the medical needs of families in the Zarzamora area in the convenience of their own neighborhood. It’s a way for us to deliver sophisticated, yet affordable health care solutions.”
“The approach of Baptist Emergency Hospital is an essential component of providing comprehensive care for San Antonio and surrounding communities,” stated Graham Reeve, President and CEO of Baptist Health System. “Having this facility in the Southside community will mean emergency care is available where they need it most, close to home. We are pleased to be able to expand this service to our neighbors around San Antonio.”
Baptist Emergency Hospitals will have a total of six convenient locations spread throughout the San Antonio area including Hausman, Overlook, Thousand Oaks, Westover Hills, Schertz and before long, Zarzamora.
